We guarantee fully engineered and building code compliant structures for schools and public precincts. Our guarantee includes the following points that you should consider when comparing quotes that seem much cheaper.
- Fully Engineered and certified, building permits provided to meet all risk and public liability regulations
- The Local Working Bee is no longer appropriate and is illegal practice for schools and public places
- Safe Pole Diameter over engineered rather than barely sufficient
- Reflexion Design & Construction has Dept. of Infrastructure accreditation
- Shade Sails in a single plane experience greater uplift, hence stretch more and displace from the taut original position.
- We produce sails in 3D (planes) which protects against uplift through force equilisation. Hence the original taut position and material memory is protected. 3D designs are more costly in the short term, but prove to be easier to maintain.
- We use 219 mm pole diameters.
- Cheaper options are usually 165 mm in diameter.
- Ask for quotes that include reference to single or 3D plane designs.
- Ultimately, the cheaper the quote, the cheaper and less safe the materials and footings, the less UV Ray resistant the material and the thinner and cheaper the poles.
- Beyond 4 – 5 years solid roof structures with the same engineering and building permit integrity will prove cheaper without taking on a faded and sagging appearance.

Two new members of our sales staff this year are from the education sector. As ex members of the Principal Class they understand schools and the pressures faced by both principals and teachers.
INTRODUCING ANTHONY AULSEBROOK OUR SALES TEAM LEADER
Anthony joined our company this year following a diverse career in the education and business field. He has taught in primary and secondary schools throughout Victoria and served as Principal of two primary schools and a Senior Secondary College. He has a lifelong interest in special education and has done extensive research into helping students with ADD, ADHD and with Dyslexia disorders.
Anthony has been a consultant to schools for students with Special Needs and has been CEO of two registered training organisations that provide ESL courses for overseas students. He is also a Licensed Real Estate Agent with knowledge of domestic and commercial properties and is an active member of the Rotary Club of Bayswater where he has been President on two occasions. He was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship this year by Rotary International for his service to the local and international community.
With this background, he is capable of understanding the pressures that school leaders and teachers face in the day to day operations of a school and the value that a professional service can provide to overworked and underpaid educators. By tailoring places and spaces in schools to enhance student learning and teacher effectiveness, he can assist schools to make decisions that will take away the worry associated with the transition from a conceptual idea to a completed project in your school.
WELCOME BERNIE FLYNN TO OUR SALES TEAM
Bernie joins the company after having taught for over 30 years as a classroom and physical education teacher in Government schools. He has served for 15 years in varying positions as District Sport Secretary, President and Treasurer of the Waverley and Wantirna District Sports Associations he has a great knowledge of how to utilise outdoor learning spaces and tailor student needs to outdoor learning. This experience has helped Bernie to understand the important link between the inside and outside teaching and learning concepts so readily featured in Reflexion’s models.
He is extremely impressed with the $1m community library facility recently built by Reflexion in Mallacoota. Bernie’s leadership roles in schools have helped him appreciate the benefits associated with outdoor learning spaces such as engaging students in learning and helping to modify student behaviour.
Often schools only view their outdoor areas as recreation places for students at recess and lunchtime during fine weather. One of our valued customers, Mount Eliza North Primary School is the feature school for this month.
Reflexion has completed this project over several phases, transforming a muddy, sloping disused area of land into an outstanding feature of the school.
There is access for all levels of mobility and low maintenance synthetic turf is excellent for low impact physical activities.
Our company knows that Behaviour is the sum of Personality and Environment. You often can’t change personality, but big changes to the environment lead to significant changes to student behaviour.
Our Outdoor Furniture Range includes the KyPic 2000 which is ideal for Collaborative Learning, large enough for eight to twelve students at each setting, the seating meets multiple needs including, casual eating, one-on-one learning using wireless internet, and peer tutoring.
Designed to avoid visual barriers, the area can be used to enhance physical fitness and provides very well for peer tutoring, small group learning, student collaboration and fun, whilst providing clear vision and supervision of the entire area. In addition to the normally anticipated recreational use, the concrete steps act as an Amphitheatre, provides seating for student performances, meetings, story-telling and other learner modalities. The jarrah amphitheatre seating, whilst visually pleasing, also enables activities that involve even larger groups of students and teachers.
The proximity to Garden Beds allows students to study naturalist and sustainable elements in a 3D classroom for students who excel during Project and Naturalist learning.
Different Materials are factored into the design with world-wide sustainable standards an important focus. For example, Western Australian Jarrah, a natural Australian hardwood, is produced by the wholly owned Australian company who ensures that there are always more trees being grown than harvested.
Sensory and Spatial differences can be catered for. This area is brought together to form a learning environment designed to accommodate the students’ multiple intelligences and learning modalities. The design allows for flexible outdoor teaching in an area encompassing many design patterns. It is the combination of design features that make Reflexion Design and Construction’s work unique.
Reflexion Design and Construction is a company that offers much more than recreation shade structures. We can assist with the planning, design and construction of outdoor and indoor learning environments which encompass many 21st century school design patterns.
